Music is a powerful language that can move a person to the praise and worship of God. Thus, music plays a vital role in our church services. Since music stirs human emotions for good or for evil, we realize the importance of quality music that is God-honoring. Music also reminds us of God’s stability, strength, and peace, and it prepares our hearts to receive God’s direction from His Word. In general terms, we regard each song as simply our testimony and convictions set to music; therefore, we recognize the importance of an appropriate worshipful style of music with words that are accurate and agree with our theology.
There are several avenues of service in the music ministry here at Calvary. Congregational singing allows every member to lift his voice to sing praise to a holy and righteous God. In Patch the Pirate Club, first through sixth graders learn fundamentals of music theory and performance and have the opportunity to minister to the church family. The choir sings on Sunday mornings and evenings. Choir practice is at 4:45 P.M. on Sunday afternoons. Any seventh through twelfth grader or adult is invited to participate in our choir. Special vocal music is provided by soloists, duets, trios, and ensembles. Instrumentalists provide special music during the offering.
